A stock picker, also known as an order picker is a machinery which is somewhat similar to a forklift. It enables the operator to use forks to raise a pallet. An order picker is also capable of lifting the operator up to higher shelves for picking some items, and this feature is something the forklift does not provide. Usually, order pickers are powered by electricity. These machines are mostly utilized in a warehouse setting. Usually they are utilized for moving pallets and completing certain jobs in the shelving and stocking department.
The operator of an order picker uses controls to control the unit from a platform setting which normally sits fairly near the ground. The operator could direct the equipment to go backwards, forwards or steer it from side to side. When the operator has positioned the unit in place the tines could be raised to the required level which makes it very convenient for the operator. Like for example, if the needed materials, are located on a shelf which the operator could not reach, then whole platform is capable of being lifted up to certain level. Due to the counterweight situated at the other end, the unit remains balanced, even at higher levels.
After the order has been picked, the platform is lowered back to its original position. Then the order picker could be driven to its next load. With the majority of models, it is possible to move the order picker whilst the platform is raised, although, several businesses might have procedures and policies in place preventing such maneuvers for safety reasons. An order picker can also place pallets on a shelf. Forklifts and stackers can be utilized to finish these particular tasks at several companies instead.
