Charger Safety
The battery and charger should be at the same amperage. It should be turned off while the battery is being plugged in.
Open Flames
Open flames are not allowed in the vicinity of a battery and charging area. Never permit items like for instance matches or lighters to be used while somebody is inspecting the fluid levels in the battery.
Ventilation
The battery charging are also has to be correctly ventilated. The recharging process could release gas. These gases are both explosive and toxic.
