Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescopic booms are large industrial machines designed with a straight boom arm which is extendable. The boom is typically located on a rotating turntable. The telescoping boom lifts are typically utilized for jobs that need tasks to be done at heights that exceed other types of lifts. For example, employees are able to perform exterior renovations or repairs on buildings of medium height but utilizing these lifts rather than having the extra work of setting up a pulley system or an outside elevator.
The boom lift bucket generally just holds one employee. These buckets are more suited to particular jobs like for example electrical repair, rather than general maintenance or window washing. These lifts are available with both indoor and outdoor tires and come in gas or electric configurations.
Scissor Lifts
Underneath the scissor lifts work platform are the cross braces in which the machinery gets its name. Once the braces move together it pushes the platform straight up. Because these machines should be directly positioned beneath the work site, these units are way more limited in their use compared to boom lifts.
The scissor lift normally has a bigger platform that allows the operator to control the lift to access a larger work area once the lift platform is raised off the ground. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of an issue with these kinds of machinery, because they must sit on flat ground in order to be used. Scissor lifts are great for being used for window installation or cladding, since they provide the personnel with the desired mobility; they are also a good alternative for exterior repairs or window cleaning applications.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The cherry picker or boom truck refers to the utility vehicle normally used to raise employees for different tasks done at heights. Generally, these trucks have a cab. It is here where the driver sits and operates the equipment. There is a bucket for where the worker can stand along with a winch for lifting and an actuator arm for lifting the boom.
Boom trucks take personnel to heights that would usually be inaccessible. The function of cranes is to raise heavy supplies or equipment from one place to another. There are different kinds of cranes that can carry out a variety of purposes. Both of these different types of machinery excel at different tasks and are great for certain applications and completing particular jobs.
