History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during the year 1919. The company was originally founded by Anton Raky, an engineer. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The original name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
In the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was obtained by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling machines.
