Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts consist of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, connected to make an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is raised vertically. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting mechanism in order to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
Scissor lifts provide a low profile which is great for concrete, pavement and hard dirt surfaces. These machinery utilize either an electric motor or a combustion engine in order to move the lift and power the lifting apparatus. The operator must move the lift itself if she or he needs to travel horizontally, because the lift apparatus only operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts utilize the identical lifting technology as a standard scissor lift. The main difference is that the rough terrain models feature a different base that is particularly designed for uneven surfaces. These units also provide higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive in order to easily navigate through difficult and muddy terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are designed to be raised both vertically and diagonally. This specific unit has a small work platform that houses controls to be able to operate the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics which move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift unit.
Articulating Boom Lift
The articulating boom lift features 2 telescopic booms that are attached with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting equipment has a small work platform or a bucket which is outfitted with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are made to be able to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
In order to raise a work platform vertically into the air, the aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast. The lift is usually powered electrically or pneumatically and are self-propelled models. These machines offer an excellent solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is vital to keep in mind that aerial mast lifts are not recommended for off-road use and are limited to vertical movement.
