The Liebherr family business was started in 1949 by Hans Liebherr. The business first gained fame from its mobile tower crane which was noted for its ease of assembly and affordability. It was upon this invention that the company's foundation flourished under. Nowadays, The Liebherr business has grown to become among the world's leading manufacturers of construction machinery. The company has also gained the reputation of being the accredited provider of technically innovative user-oriented products and services in a range of fields. The company has now become a "Group" working in every continent with more than 130 companies and more than 35,000 workers all around the world.
The Liebherr Group has been divided into various company units in order to ensure a manageable operating size. These individual units operate independently. This set up enables the business the ability to stay in tune with worldwide competition and be flexible to market signals. What's more, having so many individual company units also ensures customer proximity and keeps customer service running at an optimum level.
The divisional control companies deal with the production for the individual product segments and the operative management of the sales companies. The Liebherr Group presently encompasses ten different product divisions.
Liebherr-International AG is the holding company of the Liebherr Group. They are located within Bulle, Switzerland and are totally owned by members of the Liebherr family. At present, the family business is being managed by Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr and his sister Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr in the second generation. Since the year 2012, some of the active individual divisions have been represented by third generation family members like: Jan Liebherr, Sophie Albrecht, Patricia Ruf and Stefanie Wohlfarth. These members of the family have been working hard together to be able to help set up the course of the family business in the future. They are staying on top of large-scale industrial projects and residential buildings all around the world.
Hans Liebherr started to build his business during the year 1949, in a tiny town known as Kirchdorf in southern Germany. Kirchdorf, currently supports amongst Liebherr's 20 manufacturing locations. They employ over 1400 people in that specific workforce and are able to average an annual output of approximately 2800 wheeled excavators.
