The forklift is a material handling equipment utilized to lift and move loads from one place to another. Each forklift component has a particular function. Various parts can be used to move the load vertically or horizontally.

Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the parts which lift and lower the load. There are different types of masts for lifting loads to various heights: quad, simplex, duplex and triplex.

Power Supply
There are four different ways you could power a forklift: electric, gas, propane and diesel. The battery is located inside the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is situated on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is underneath the rear of the truck.

Cab
Positioned within the center of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The steering wheel, gas pedal, tilting controls, brake and lifting controls are all situated inside the cab.

Frame
Carrying all the biggest forklift parts is the truck frame. This consists of the counterweights located at the rear that prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the axles, wheels and driveshaft.
